Cedar Hills Sound
In the past couple of years CHS has spent some time updating our studio. A few of the recent hardware purchases include the Sytek MPX - 4A (with Burr Brown op amps) and Neve 5024 mic preamps. WA-412 4 channel mic preamps by Warm Audio as well as the Focusrite ISA 428 are also available. We have recently added the world class Burl B2 A/D & D/A converters to our signal path. New microphones include the Lauten LT-386 (seen above), AEA R88A stereo active ribbon mic, Royer R 121, a stereo pair of Neumann KM 184's, and a stereo pair of AKG C414 XLS mics. Also included is the Shure 7B which is a great workhorse microphone. CHS has recently added the very powerful CS450 PC and the Universal Audio Apollo 16 MKll & two Apollo 8XP interfaces for high track count and high end remote recording. Monitoring is done on our new Focal 65's.
Some of the new software includes Universal Audio which gives us a number of powerful plugins to work with on your next project. Izotope Ozone Mastering version 9 Advanced software, along with the Rx7 Ozone repair software, is also available. Celemony's Melodyne version 5 software is available to fix a number of issues if needed. We also have a large collection of Waves, Fabfilter, Plugin Alliance, and Soundtoy plugins. We have also added Steinberg’s Wavelab Pro 11 for mastering. CHS uses ProTools Ultimate, Logic Pro, Luna, & Cakewalk for our recording & mixing DAW’s.
Feel free to call (309-253-8532) for a complete list of hardware and software. Make an appointment to check out what we have done for others and what we can do for you.

CHS is also working through a very busy recording schedule. We had the pleasure of recording Tom Marko's first release as a bandleader - Inner Light - a record everyone should have in their collection. This cd was released on Summit Records. For more information about Tom and his group check out their website - Tom Marko & Inner Light
CHS has also finished recording projects with Snake Oil Salesman - a fine local blues band - Bill Hill, Greg Harris, IC Jazz Train, and we finished a project with Scott Dahms entitled Tales of a Rusted Compass. Scott lives in Denver, CO so CHS got to spend a week in that great state working on an amazing project. We worked with some wonderful musicians on this record including Wade Krause, Jeff Graves, and Leftover Salmon's original keyboardist Joe Jorgerst. Much fun was had during the recording and CHS delivered the final mix in time for a pre Christmas release. Check out samples on our Listen page.
We also had the great opportunity to work on Elizabeth Geyer's newest release - The Bridge. Produced by Elizabeth and Paul Adams with some great guest musicians including David Hoffman and Pravin Godkhindi. The Bridge is a beautiful collection of songs from the heart. Please go to www.elizabethgeyer.com for more information about this and all of Elizabeth's music.
Sarah & the Underground released their first recording last year. This self titled live recording also features Brandon Mooberry on bass & Nick Fairley on drums/percussion. Bob Lyndsey recorded this event at the WTVP studios. CHS was proud to mix this live concert from their television debut on State & Water St.
The Derel Monteith Trio is scheduled to release their recording- "Quantity of Life" - on Oct. 18, 2019. This cd is the trio’s first recording and features all original music from Derel. Along with Derel on piano, the recording features Andy Crawford on bass and Jason Brannon on drums. This trio is as good as it gets.
Also being released on the same date will be Derel’s first solo piano outing entitled “Connemara”. This is a collection of improvised piano pieces. Created while determining what gear would be used for the trio sessions, Connemara is a beautiful piece of work. Derels’ solo improvisational piano recordings were a very unique and exciting series of recordings that CHS was truly thrilled to be able to capture as they happened.
CHS was very proud to have (along with Derel) produced, recorded, and mixed both of these CD’s. The cd versions of this music will be available on Derel’s website - derel.net - or you can stream them on most streaming services starting on Oct. 18, 2019.
This amazing new duet album by Chip Stevens and Glenn Wilson will be released on Oct 18, 2019 by Capri Records. CHS recorded this at Tom Becker’s studio in Bloomington, IL last year and we could not be any more excited to already have a copy in our hands. Be looking for this on all your favorite streaming sites or order your cd at Glenn’s website. Glenn Wilson
Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s Doug Stone (who also teaches at LSU) released his latest CD entitled Motion on January 17, 2020. This recording consists of Doug on tenor sax, Bob Sneider on guitar, Danny Ziemann on bass, and Mike Melito on drums. Cedar Hills Sound, along with Jimmy Bridgeman of Rock Solid Studios, recorded this amazing quartet last April. Do yourself a favor and get a copy soon.
